While living in Spokane, Wash., I spent a fair amount of time at Barnes and Noble.

I might spend up to two hours browsing the shelves of the never-ending supply of books, pick out one or two, and then pay around $20 for each one.

As it turns out, this is not the ideal way for somebody on a budget to read books. There are a few books that I bought that looked good in the store, and then turned out to be terrible. That’s a compete waste of money.

Last week, for the first time in about eight years, I took advantage of the library. In this case, the brand-new, state-of-the-art Lebanon Public Library.

I can read books without breaking the bank. It’s a grand concept.

Last week I read Moneyball by Michael Lewis. It’s about the Oakland Athletics, a baseball team that was able to make the most out of a low budget.

It’s similar to the way I am approaching this new Library idea. I should have thought of this a long time ago.
