It’s being reported that Manny Rameriz and David Ortiz, both stars of a Boston Red Sox team that won the World Series for the first time in 86 years in 2004, tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.
At the time, Rameriz was considered a natural hitter, one of the best in baseball, and Ortiz a lovable slugger.
Now they’re linked to steroids and labeled as cheaters.
I’m completely disgusted with the Steroid Era.
Nearly all of the best players from around 1995 to the present day have been linked to steroids: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez, Rameriz, Ortiz.
The list literally goes on and on and on. One hundred and four Major League players were listed on the 2003 list. And those are just the ones that were caught.
An asterisk is the logo for the Steroid Era. The asterisk serves as a note explaining that the individual statistics accomplished by these players were done so during an era when steroids were prevalent.
As far as I’m concerned, an asterisk is no longer needed. We can assume that there indeed was a level playing field during the Steroid Era, because EVERYBODY was using steroids.
It’s pretty much the entire reason I’ve lost interest in Major League Baseball.
