NFL Picks: Week 4 Comments
Last week: 12-4 (33-15 overall)
There are three things I need to address about week three before making my week four picks.
First, I loved – LOVED – the Seattle Seahawks lime-green jerseys.
Why not mix it up a little bit? I think they looked pretty slick, although they would have looked even better if they could have beaten the Bears.
Secondly, Brett Favre’s game-winning touchdown pass to Greg Lewis to keep the Minnesota Vikings undefeated was as dramatic a finish as you can ask for.
And it’s the perfect way to set up this Monday’s Vikings-Packers game, the first time Favre will play against his old team. It’s likely to be ESPN’s biggest telecast.
Third, I went 12-4 with my picks after a disappointing week three, when I went 9-7. I’m most proud of my prediction that the lowly Lions would snap their 19-game losing streak and beat the Redskins. There’s no way Detriot could have gone winless again, although I do see a 4-12 record in its future.
Check out my week four picks:
Sunday
Ravens at Patriots: Something is up with New England. They’re just not the team I expected. The offense under the guidance of Matt Cassel last year looks better than this year’s team with Tom Brady, and my feelings about Cassel are well documented. I’ll still go with the Pats at home against the 3-0 Ravens, but this one is practically a toss-up.
Buccaneers at Redskins: There’s really nothing to like about Tampa Bay, so I’ll go with Washington, even though they lost to the Lions last week.
Titans at Jaguars: I have to think this is the week Tennessee will get its first week of the season. They’re too good of a team. I’ll take the Titans.
Oakland at Houston: I think Steve Slaton could be in for a good week at home against the Raiders. He played good last week after a disappointing start to the season. He’ll carry Houston past Oakland.
Lions at Bears: There’s no way Detriot wins this one. No way. This is a lock for the Bears at home.
Bengals at Browns: There is definite turmoil in Cleveland, what with the crummy offense and quarterback controversy. That being said, I almost want to pick the Browns at home, but I just can’t. Cincinnatti is the pick.
Seahawks: This could be the biggest butt-whipping of the week. Colts by a lot.
Giants at Chiefs: This is a clash between two teams that are exactly opposite of one another. I’m going to pick New York until they lose, and I’m going to pick Kansas City to lose until they win. The Giants are the pick.
Jets at Saints: Great game, just not the game of the week. This is the only game between two undefeated teams. The Saints offense just can’t be controlled, even against the aggresive Jets, so I’ll go with New Orleans.
Bills at Dolphins: This is a pretty terrible game. Give me the Bills, just because I have to pick somebody.
Cowboys at Broncos: Dallas is kind of like New England. They’re just not as impressive as they should be. That being said, there isn’t anything I like about Denver. I’ll go with Dallas.
Rams at 49ers: St. Louis is 0-3 and San Francisco is 2-1. The Rams just lost their starting quarterback and the 49ers are playing with a great home-field advantage. I don’t care! This is my upset pick of the week. Give me the Rams!
Chargers at Steelers: I have to be honest, I really have no idea who will win this game. It could either way. I’m going to take Pittsburgh just because they’re at home.
Monday
Packers at Vikings: This is more than a football game. It’s an event. For many, many years, when you thought of Green Bay, you thought of Brett Favre. Now he’s playing for the rival Vikings, the team all Packers fans must hate? This is the third biggest game of the year, behind the Super Bowl and when Favre and his Vikings play at Green Bay on Nov. 1. I’m going to get a six-pack of beer and enjoy the magnificence of it all. Oh I have to pick somebody? Ok, I’ll go with the Vikings.
