The last week of news regarding the state of the NFL lockout has been quite positive, and it appears as if both sides are committed to starting the season without missing any preseason games.
While ESPN and NFL Network reporters have done a great job in providing all of the basic details, breaking news regarding altered rookie pay scales and the players’ increase in shared television revenue is all just white noise.
The only thing fans heard during those sidewalk segments is “blah, blah, blah NFL owners and the NFLPA members met for 12 hours Thursday, blah blah, deal in principal, blah blah … team activities could start next week.”
That is all I heard, at least.
We sports fans love to complain about the millionaires vs. the billionaires, and the first-round draft picks that get compensated for their college accomplishments, and the superstars that don’t appreciate their God-given abilities, but it really doesn’t matter to us.
We’re going to watch NFL football, every game, no matter how much we don’t understand the people involved.
Two weeks remain until the start of the preseason, so now the networks must find a new story to report on. Unless we get a few more James Harrison bombshells, I must sadly say — Let Favre-watch 2011 begin.
